Wind

Located on the north-western edge of the continent, Scotland has the largest wind resource of any country in Europe with around 25% of the total. By managing this huge potential in an environmentally intelligent manner, Scotland's dependence on imported fuels can be minimised through a substantial contribution to our energy needs being met by wind energy.

In addition, this will contribute to mitigating climate change while creating thousands of so-called 'green-collar' jobs. Wind energy is already playing a significant role in electricity generation in Scotland (with similar installed capacity to hydro) and is vital to the delivery of Scotland's ambitious renewable energy targets.

Renew-Net partners have a range of experiences and facilities applicable to Wind energy development:

  • Wind resource analysis
  • Aerodynamics analysis
  • Electrical generator design, build and test
  • Control system development
  • Power electronic converter development
  • Systems modelling
  • Power systems analysis
